Cave Creek

Cave Creek, Arizona
ORIGINAL CHARACTER
Iron oxide is what lends the rocks of Arizona their red coloring. Along with Copper, Gold and other minerals, prospectors were drawn to the northern Phoenix area in 1873. This art package tells the story of Cave Creek through the area's materials, textures and iconography.

In a first, we worked with a Philatelist to identify and source groupings of 1942 Desert Cactus Plants and 1962 Arizona Statehood stamps for collages. The project also leaned heavily on ceramics, with a collection of custom pots at the entrance and series of wall mounted disks and extrusions to draw a tangible connection to the soil. At the entrance prospective tenants are greeted by custom textiles with integrated copper wire and a collage of 1930 US Geological Survey maps framed to reference the state's silhouette.
